Summary

The WADder.net Portable Package, better known as the Portapack, is Aether's way to stop noobs from continuously complaining about nonworking programs, when it's something stupid like the Framework not being up to date, or the Forms not being installed. (It's also just for plain convenience. Which would you rather have - multiple uncompressed files and folders for your WADder.net programs that total about 600mb, or two compressed files that total about 300mb?)

Details

This packages all six WADder tools - WADder, CustomizeMii, MyMenu, Extract Everything, EWES, and the NUS WAD Packer - plus the Softmii Theme converter, Aether's Base.app Getter, and ShowMiiWADs into one .exe file and an accompanying .dat file which includes the Forms, the Framework, the Python Dependencies, and the Visual C++ runtime (Everything that the programs need to run). When the user opens the Portapack, he or she is greeted by the Launcher GUI, which is built off of MyMenu's GUI. He then selects which program he wants to run, and it will open.

Theoretically, this should work on every PC, but this theory is untested. Since it was built using Windows XP Service Pack 2, it may simply refuse to run on older Windows Systems. It is not recommended to run this under Wine or similar, as it rarely works, and may result in bricking CSM/WAD files.

Known Bugs

  • There may be a few problems on 64-bit systems. If there are, it's out of my control. Some 32-bit apps won't run on 64-bit systems, even in the Portapack.
  • All bugs present in any of the packaged apps will also be present in the Portapack.

Changelog

  • This changelog is no longer being maintained. An updated changelog is available in the Portapack topic on the WADder.net forums.

Extras.dat

What is it?

Extras.dat is an optional extension to the Portapack that helps make life easier for the noob (or maybe even the advanced) Wii modder by adding additional programs which are not normally available in the Portapack.

Where do I get it?

The Portapack automatically detects whether or not you have Extras.dat. If you don't have it, there will be an "X" over the furthest right icon in the More Programs menu. Click the crossed out icon to be prompted to download the latest version of Extras.dat. Wait for the download to finish, then put the file in the same folder as your Portapack.exe (it MUST be named "Extras.dat," or if you're using the Windows 7 version "Extras7.dat")

How do I know if new extras are added?

Extras.dat has a built-in update checker that will automatically check to see if you have the latest version. NOTE: Extras.dat will not check for updates if you disable updating in Portapack settings.
